Position: Earth Observation Data Scientist Intern

As an intern, you’ll lead the development of new software architecture for processing satellite imagery and integrate it with life cycle assessment (LCA) models. You will design advanced data pipelines and services to gather and analyze Earth Observation (EO) data from various sources. You’ll work closely with our tech and data teams to ensure alignment with both customer needs and environmental goals.


Main Tasks:

  • Develop data pipelines for Earth Observation (EO) data

  • Build microservices to process EO datasets

  • Integrate new EO services into Niatsu's infrastructure

  • Generate novel datasets and insights for the food industry

Side Tasks:

  • Test and evaluate emerging technologies

  • Collaborate with the science team to align EO processing with life cycle assessment models


We’re Looking For:
An enthusiastic and independent thinker who’s passionate about applying data science to fight climate change. You’re collaborative, creative, and adaptable. Ideally, you’ve worked with EO data before and are familiar with large geospatial datasets and cloud infrastructure.


Requirements (Must-Have):

  • Strong motivation to address climate change through data science

  • Experience with EO data and building systems in the field

  • Proficiency in Python and working with large geospatial datasets

  • Ability to independently develop software from concept to production

  • Fluency in English (German or other languages a plus)

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data
